Hello all ,
FStival ‘07 is the Free Software Festival conducted by GLUGOT – GNU/Linux User group of Tce and GLUG-Madurai to celebrate Software freedom Day which is an international effort to educate people about the importance of software freedom. It was conducted this year on September 15th.
Software Freedom day celebrations started in 2004 and FStival has been conducted from 2004 in TCE. There are generally two sessions .The first would include a talk about Free software in general by a FOSS enthusiast and the next would be demo stalls on various GNU tools.
This year , Mr.Praveen Krishnamoorthi , Mr.Senthil Kumaran (from HP )and Mr Subramanian (from Spike Source) , alumi of our college graced the occasion. Praveen talked on Software Freedom and its importance , GNU/Linux in educational institutions and GNU/Linux in industries. After that there was a demo of installation of GNU/Linux(Ubuntu)These took place in KS Auditorium. Subramani showed the audience some eye candy features like Compiz fusion and looking glass.
After that we had demo stalls on various GNU tools like ,
GIMP,vi,emacs,Blender , LAMP , debuggers like GDB , valgrind , LaTex, Open Office,Bluefish, Games , Linux Day to Day , GTK+/Glade , Database tools , etc
Apart from TCEians people from other colleges , and even schools had come. The demo stalls really helped them get to know the tools … FStival ‘07 enlightened a lotta people this time and hats off to the team which made this happen !!!
