Ganesh’s visit to TCE
Ganesh Hiregoudar from Sun Microsystems ( the all India coordinator for Campus Ambassador Programme ) visited our college today. He informed me on wednesday about his visit. He came to AKCE,our college and Fatima College. He went to AKCE in the morning and came here at twelve thirty. He met our HOD first and then he addressed the staff members of CSE and IT departments. He spoke on India Universtiy Programme and Sun Guru Programme for teachers. They represented their views and there was a discussion on what has to be done next to take this a step ahead. We had a very quick lunch in the canteen as we were already running short of time. We met the principal and there were some ideas proposed about the Sun Guru programme.
I met the principal and spoke about all that Ganesh told us . It was decided to start the Sun Guru programme in may and also conduct some contests and reward programmers of TCE !! Also we have plans to let interested people know about the byte size bugs and let them try out fixing them !!!
It was also suggested to start sun certifications in the college soon. All these activities will realy make a good collaboration between Sun and TCE if they are successful!!
A pleasant evening with Sun
I just attended a meeting on March 14th , that was conducted by Accel Frontline in collaboration with sun (Nice to hear they have become strategic partners of Sun with regard to marketing , It seems they have also started lotta activities in south india especially in cities like trivandrum , Madurai etc) That took place in GRT Regency , Madurai ( nice hotel and nice food
) Mr. Balaji (our faculty , one of the favourite teachers in our college infact
, and my friends geethu and ashok
accompanied me. I got a chance to speak there. I spoke on Sun’s support to academia, its academic developer programmes and how students can really get benefitted out of such activities by learning new technologies and keeping with the pace of technical growth.
I cud also interact with many people from academic instituitions , especially professors from various colleges. That was really nice interacting with the sun team (Mr Jayanthi Nagesh , Mr Satish ). who had come there.
Last but not the least we had nice dinner
and we cud also talk to lotta people during the dinner. One of the memorable evenings !!!!
First Sun Club meet!!
First meeting of sun club took place this month on march 8 th.I
conducted a class on Netbeans -5.5 . That session was for an hour.
I just taught them some basics of IDE s as more first year students were present. That took place in the conference hall of our department. Bala , agalya , geethu were there to help me. There was also demo on Netbeans and
simple features of it.I wudn say it was a success because i didnt realy know whether to talk on advaned features or to teach some basics as both first and third year students were present. So,It has been suggested to have a session on advanced netbeans features for third year students just to facilitate this . We ll be having it
the next semester.I hope i can make it more useful the next time.
Sun Club Inaugurated in TCE!!
The Sun Club(Sun forum) of our college has been inaugurated. The function took place at the K.M auditorium of our college.(not good acoustics though !! )the number of students who came for the function exceeded 300, we were quite surprised!!!
We had invited Mr. Ganesh Hiregoudar from Sun to inaugurate the club but as he was not able to come due to inevitable reasons, our Principal and HOD accepted to inaugurate the club.
The registration for the Sun Club was also done immediately at the end of function and almost all those who attended the function registered for the club activities.
This is actually a forum which will serve as the point of contact for all activities related to Sun microsystems. I would say this is an excellent initiative taken by the college The Club was inaugurated by our HOD, Dr.R.Rajaram. He spoke on the importance of FOSS based tools and softwares. Then there was a talk on computers in the past and present by the HOD of IT Dr. U.Nirai Chandran.
Then I spoke on what is Sun Club and its proposed activities. I started from various products of Sun, and then towards, the way in which the Club will function and so on.I spoke on arranging for project interns, arranging seminars, workshops and hands on sessions for the various products from SUN including Open Solaris, Java, NetBeans etc.
We had very good support from our staff-co-ordinators, Ms Subhatra and Mr.Emil Selvan. They spent a lot of time with us and helped us in organising this event.
The Club’s mailing list can be joined http://mail.tce.edu/mailman/listinfo/sunclub .
These are a few activities that have been planned.
